Injuries are always a killer at this time of the season:
That Kirby face is how I felt for a lot of this game. Every single time I watch Tech play, I will never understand how they are allowed to keep blocking the way that they do. The ‘1 blocks high, 1 goes low’ that they do are at best an unfair advantage and at worse, they are straight up dangerous.
I lost count of the number of times where I saw a UGA player pull away from a block at the last minute before a Tech player dived at their knees. How is it still legal that this team forces opponents to make a decision between doing their job or risking their leg? How can the NCAA even pretend to care about player safety if they continue to allow this tactic in modern day football?
I’m sorry if this sounds like a rant, but it’s just baffling to me. This isn’t something every other team does. It’s a tactic that like 3 teams use to overcome their shortcomings. Every single year they tear up opponents ACL’s and nobody seems to do anything about it. It’s just insane that they continue to do be allowed to do it.
Of course, Georgia didn’t make it out of this game unscathed. Trenton Thompson hurt his knee on one of the few plays where he didn’t have someone diving at his feet. This could be a big blow. Thompson has not become the dominant player that some hoped he would be. But he’s an important part of this team’s defensive line. It’s going to be tough to replace him in the SEC championship game.
