Georgia Football: 5 takeaways from UGA’s victory over Tech
UGA has some receiving weapons:
While Georgia will continue to rely on the running game, it showed this week that it has some receiving weapons. Javon Wims has come so far since he joined as a JUCO transfer last season. He has become a legitimate no.1 receiver for this Georgia team and it’s been really exciting to see.
Terry Godwin and Riley Ridley continue to be weapons, but more often than not, Jake Fromm turns to Wims. Whether that is because he built a good relationship or because he’s the best receiver doesn’t really matter. It’s a connection that really seems to work.
Mecole Hardman again excited Dawg fans this week. From a return perspective, he is always a threat to go the distance. He has also come a long way as a receiver and he made a fantastic catch down the field in this game. He went up and caught a 39-yard bomb with a cornerback draped all over him. Hardman’s catching continues to improve and there is no doubt that he can be explosive.
Georgia once again did not use their tight ends much in the recievering game. This is something that will have to change a bit next week. I fully expect UGA to target Auburn’s linebackers where they can. That seems to be one of the few weaknesses on that defense.
