Georgia football: Top performers from the Bulldogs win over Georgia Tech
Georgia football swatted the Yellow Jackets from Georgia Tech yesterday in a 38-7 victory. The Bulldogs improved to 11-1 heading into the SEC Championship Game.
Rivalries don’t get much more bitter than Georgia and Georgia Tech. “Clean, Old Fashioned Hate,” is anything but clean at this point. The old-fashioned hate is there, but annoying, disrespectful, and downright dirty are words that can describe the rivalry in 2017.
That makes every win so much sweeter and I’m proud to say that Georgia football gave us the sweetest of victories on Saturday by exterminating the midget hornet wannabe’s from the North Avenue Trade School. The ferocious, yet smarter Bulldogs won the contest 38-7.
Some of those Bulldogs showed of their ferocity more than others. So here’s a list honoring those Bulldogs who silenced the hive for the year.
Roquan Smith
If Roquan Smith isn’t a first round draft pick, I don’t think I can watch the NFL ever again. I’ll never be able to take their ability to judge talent seriously after that. I’m not saying this as a homer, Smith is the best defensive player in America. Not the best inside linebacker, or the best linebacker. The best defensive player.
Smith shut down the triple option almost on his own. But hand it to Mel Tucker for having the defense aligned perfectly to set Smith loose on the ball carriers. Much of the game, Georgia ran what looked like an I-formation on defense. That gave Smith the perfect spot to read the play and build up a head of steam to lay out the backs.
For 11 straight weeks, he proved himself as the best defender. But playing the triple option the way he did left no doubt in my mind. He is the best. What more can I say?
