Georgia Football: SEC Championship Score Prediction
Each week, Dawn of the Dawg will make a score prediction for the Georgia Football team’s upcoming game. How will the Dawgs fare in the SEC Championship game?
Georgia Football is back where it belongs: playing in Atlanta for the SEC Championship. It has been 5 years since the Dawgs last played for a conference championship and came 7 yards short of what would likely have been a national championship season.
Kirby Smart has taken his team to an 11-1 season and a division title in just his second season in Athens. Georgia’s only loss this year was to Auburn and now the Dawgs get a chance for revenge as they’ll face the Tigers again tomorrow.
This game has massive implications for both teams. The winner will not only be crowned SEC champion. They will also be guaranteed a spot in the upcoming College Football Playoff. If Kirby Smart is able to pull that off in his second year as a head coach, then Georgia’s football program will be elevated back to being one of college football’s elite teams and rightfully so.
Georgia is a slight underdog in this game and that’s to be expected. Auburn beat the Dawgs by 23 last month and won against Alabama last week. But this game will be different. Georgia gets to take on a beaten up Auburn team on a neutral field under a closed roof.
The Dawgs seemed a little shell-shocked when they played Auburn the first time. I don’t expect them to underestimate the Tigers again.
Georgia has to avoid the same mistakes that cost the team the game at Auburn last month. The two keys for Georgia are simple: run the football and minimize the penalties. If Georgia can do those two things, then the SEC Championship trophy will be headed back to Athens for the first time in 12 years.
Prediction: Georgia 28, Auburn 24
Georgia takes on Auburn tomorrow at 4:00 P.M. (ET) on CBS.
