Georgia Football: How UGA’s offensive line turned it around in 2017
Andrew Thomas is going to be a star:
Thomas has done something few freshmen do on an SEC offensive line. He has started every single game. Not only did he start, but he did so at right tackle and he has taken on some of the nations best pass rushers all season.
It hasn’t always been good from Thomas. He like most of the line was pretty badly abused in the first match vs Auburn. That environment and the energy the Tigers were playing with caused him some serious issues. That’s to be expected however for an 18-year-old kid. He’s never been in an environment like that and was going up against future NFL talent, all of whom were older than him.
He has some blown blocks on Saturday as well, but overall, he has been really impressive this year. Despite his age, he has never looked like the weak link in any game this season. He has been much better in the run game as well than I was expecting. You can just tell that the guy is going to be a star in the SEC and it could be as soon as next season. Thomas looks like the clear heir to Georgia’s left tackle spot. The sky really is the limit for a guy that Sam Pittman has only been working with for less than 6 months.
Thomas has everything you look for in a franchise tackle. He’s tall, has quick feet and well-distributed weight. He also already possesses pretty good technique thanks to the great coaching he received at Pace Academy. It’s just crazy to me that the guy has been able to play this well considering he only came to Georgia in June. I can’t wait to see how he develops in the years to come.
