3. 3rd Quarter: Illegal block by Elijah Holyfield

I have to admit, that this one baffled me. I was unable to find a replay of this particular call that was broken down, but when you rewatch the game, it was bizarre. Holyfield was in the game as a fullback and was out blocking for his Nick Chubb. He blocked an incoming linebacker in pretty much the perfect place. He hit his guy right on the hip and he did it in a way that didn’t look like it could hurt someone at all.

And yet somehow, the official decided that he made an illegal chop block. That would have suggested that Holyfield hit the defender around his knees. That meant that the official missed the call by more than 2 ft!!

What makes this all the more laughable is that just 1 week ago, UGA was playing a team that actually cut blocks. I wrote about how dangerous it was to play Tech every year. They actually go after peoples knees and nobody does a thing. But Holyfield threw a good block and got flagged. It was a ridiculous call that negated a great 1st down run and stalled the drive.

I just wanted to include this video in here because it pretty much summed up the officials and Holyfield. They called him for a perfectly decent play but totally ignored later on in the game when an Auburn player punched him in the face repeatedly. Not exactly a good look for the refs this one.
