It’s award season and as Roquan Smith flies around the country getting plenty of recognition, several other Georgia Football players received SEC recognition.

Roquan Smith has been out and about for plenty of award ceremonies recently. After winning the SCCG MVP and the Butkus Award, he was a finalist last night for the Nagurski Award for the nations top defender. But Smith wasn’t the only Dawg getting recognition last night. He was one of 6 Georgia Football players who received All-SEC nods.

Smith and Isaiah Wynn were the both named to the SEC 1st team. While Smith is no surprise, Wynn’s inclusion should be seen as a nod to the entire offensive line. He was the leader of that unit and thoroughly deserves his place on this list.

Georgia placed 4 players on the All-SEC second team. Nick Chubb was named at running back and Mecole Hardman earned his first nod as an all-purpose player. Chubb’s inclusion was no surprise and hopefully, Sony Michel doesn’t feel too left out. In my opinion, the committee could have given the nod to either.

Hardman’s inclusion concludes a fantastic year for the sophomore. He began a transition to wide receiver just 6 months ago and played a huge role in the SEC championship game with several big-time catches. With his punt returning abilities, this could be the first of several nods for him.

Lorenzo Carter and J.R Reed were also named to the second team. Carter’s inclusion is a rich reward for a guy who came back and became a great leader for this team. Reed has been one of the finds of the season for UGA. The transfer from Tulane has become a focal point of Georgia’s secondary.

Next: About those refs...

Smith also received the award for the best defensive player in the SEC. Jake Fromm shared the award for best newcomer with Auburn QB Jared Stidham as UGA ended up completing a very satisfying award season.
