How will this effect UGA in December?

Right now, we don’t know when Sherrer will start at Tennessee. Pruitt is going to be coaching at Bama until their season has finished. While I would like to see Sherrer do the same, I’m not sure he’ll be able to. With Pruitt only half focused on his new job, I imagine he will want Sherrer to be all in with the Vols. I’m not sure whether Kirby will be able to demand an assistant coach do the same.

Sherrer has been a great fixture at UGA since he got here. I would love to see him continue to work with Georgia through the playoffs. He’s put in a tonne of work with these guys and he deserves a shot to win a Natty. Not trying to be mean, but it’s unlikely he’s going to have that opportunity for a while at Tennessee. That program is a bit of a dumpster fire right now.

So far, we haven’t seen Kirby name a replacement for Sherrer yet. That gives me a little hope because we know how Kirby is. When he moved on from Tracy Rocker, he hired Trey Scott 24 hours later. He has likely already made his hire. The fact that that guy is not in Athens right now implies that Sherrer could be staying around for the playoffs.

Some are panicking that Sherrer’s lose could affect recruiting. I doubt that will happen. Smart isn’t going to let the likes of Adam Anderson and Azeez Ojulari leave this class. I also don’t think his departure will affect other players. That’s not to downplay Sherrer, he’s been a great coach at UGA, it’s just a recognition of how Georgia is under Smart.
