Georgia Football 2018 recruiting class starting to shape out
Georgia Football lost one commitment yesterday and could lose one or two more before signing day. Fan’s shouldn’t worry though, this is all part of the roster shuffle of recruiting.
Well, you can’t win them in all recruiting. Sometimes players decide to go elsewhere and UGA had a decommittment yesterday. Virginia based defensive end Jaevon Becton reopened his recruitment and it looks like Georgia is off the table.
Becton is a project, but he has lots of potential. This class looks very different right now than it did when Becton committed back in May. Since then UGA has landed two major OLB prospects in Azeez Ojulari and Adam Anderson. They are also looking to add one or two more top pass rushers. It looks like the Dawgs may have recruited over Becton and there’s no guarantee they would have a space for him in this class.
While it kind of sucks to see the kid lose out on a place, being committed to UGA seems to have worked out well for him. Since May, Becton has received plenty of offers from big-time schools. There is a really good chance that he still ends up with a top program and he will likely have a better chance to make an impact there.
Former UGA OLB coach Kevin Sherrer just offered Becton at Tennesee. He also just received an offer from new Nebraska head coach Scott Frost so it looks like he’ll have some good options to choose between. I think there’s a good chance he ends up with the Vols, which would be a great fit for him.
Becton is unlikely to be the only 2018 commit who changes his mind in the next few weeks. UGA is pushing for some very big names and needs some space for them. So who else could end up leaving this 2018 class for another school?
