Georgia football superlatives for the Bulldogs 2017 season
Sophomore of the Year: Tyler Clark
Clark was one of the top freshmen last season so it’s no surprise that he would step up as one of the best sophomores this year. In fact, we’re giving him sophomore of the year. His 31 total tackles and 1.5 sacks might not look like much, but as a 3-4 defensive lineman, his biggest job is to occupy blockers and make the linebacker’s job easier.
And considering Roquan Smith was the best defensive player in America, Clark clearly did his job right. Georgia is ranked 12th nationally and second in the SEC by allowing 112.6 rushing yards per game. The biggest reason why Georgia shut down opposing rushing games is because of the defensive line dominating opposing offensive lines.
Honorable Mention: Mecole Hardman
While Clark made a huge impact as part as a dominant unit, Mecole Hardman made plays and looked like the superstar we all expected. He caught 22 passes this past season for 323 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for one score.
After he couldn’t find the field last season as a defensive back, he made the most of his switch to the wide receiver and became one of Fromm’s favorite targets.
