Georgia football superlatives for the Bulldogs 2017 season
Senior of the Year: The four that returned
It was impossible to name just one senior of the year because so many stood out. But none more the collective group of running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, and linebackers Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy.
These were four guys who almost certainly were going to turn pro after last season. Instead, they decided to stay in Athens for the senior years. All they did in their swan song season was led Georgia to an SEC Championship and, at the very least, a spot in the Rose Bowl.
Chubb and Michel climbed up the SEC rushing record book. Chubb now sits at second place in conference history behind Herschel Walker. Michel is also in the top-10. And they’re both second and third in school history. That is a remarkable achievement.
Carter and Bellamy led a dominant defense. The two bookends were instrumental in Georgia shutting down every mobile quarterback they’ve faced. Both helped ruin the game plans of opposing offenses. Their impact was really felt in the SEC Championship Game where they both caused a fumble.
Honorable mention: Isaiah Wynn
Georgia’s offensive line in 2016 was mediocre at best. But they performed an 180-degree turnaround in 2017. Much of the credit for that can be placed on Isaiah Wynn who was the leader of the group. With his guidance and presence, Georgia had one of the more dominant offensive lines in the SEC.
