Georgia Football: Who has the edge in coaching at Rose Bowl?
By Mike Stowe
4. Overall coaching edge – Georgia.
I’m going to keep this one pretty simple folks. Georgia wins this debate 2-1. I’ll take UGA over Oklahoma at head coach and at defensive coordinator. While the Sooner offense makes me as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, I feel confident that this coaching staff will have the Dawgs ready to control them or at least slow them down.
Kirby Smart has built up an incredibly strong group of coaches. He lost one in OLB coach Kevin Sherrer, but the rest of his team is going to be there for this game. Guys like Sam Pittman are more than just great recruiters. Look at how much better Georgia’s line is this year, he’s clearly one heck of a coach.
That depth is one of the main reasons why I favor Smart. He is a coach who spent a long time apprenticing under one of the best ever in Nick Saban. He knows how to go out there and find great coaches to build his program. That’s one of the main reasons why I think he’s done so well at UGA. All of that preparation is sure helping the Dawgs right now.
Next: Oklahoma is the last elite program that UGA is yet to play.
Between the leadership on the sideline and the leadership on the field, the Dawgs are in a good position to punch their first ticket to a national championship game since 1983. Georgia takes on Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl on January 1st at 5:00 p.m. The game will be aired on ABC.
