Then we thought Brenton Cox finished the day off:

By the time we got close to 4 pm, Georgia fans were already ecstatic. Their team had signed 5 5-star players which was 2 more than the Dawgs had ever done before. But there was more good news to come. This time it was a player that had been trending towards the Dawgs for some time in defensive end/OLB Brenton Cox.

Cox came very close to committing to UGA back in the spring. His decision to commit to Ohio State caused a lot of people to panic back then. It was seen as a huge snub for a player that many thought would end up in Athens. He is from a family of Dawg fans and is the nations number 22 ranked player.

But his commitment to Ohio State wavered as the season went on. Cox talked about how the Buckeyes could put him in the NFL when he committed back then. By the time the season ended, UGA was in the playoff not OSU and that line seemed to have worn off. Anyone who had seen Davin Bellamy and Lorenzo Carter develop this year could see that Kirby Smart knows how to make players better.

Again, this was a must-win for Smart. Ohio State is one of the top recruiting programs in the nation and Georgia has to protect its in-state talent from Urban Meyer. It did so here. That’s something UGA will hope to do again in 2019.

Throw in the fact that Cox is close to a lot of the players that are a part of this and next years UGA class and his decision to flip makes a lot of sense. Cox can win and win big at Georgia if this year is anything to go by. He can also turn in a devastating pass rusher and could be the missing piece from this class. He will enroll early as well so should be on campus in just a few weeks.
