How did he end up at UGA?

It was a pretty long road to Fields to Athens. It was also a pretty rapid ascent to the top of the rankings as well. During his Junor year, Fields hardly had any big-time offers. In fact, his UGA one only came in December after he had finished his junior year. Shortly afterward, he committed to Penn State, which was the biggest program that recruited him early.

Things really changed for Fields this past summer. As the camp and 7 on 7 circuits ramped up, Fields play was exceptional. Considering that all of these camps centered on passing ability and not running, his ascension shocked people. Almost nobody was expecting him to be as developed as he was from a passing perspective.

Fields beat out Lawrence for the MVP of the Elite 11 QB camp. He led his team to The Opening championship and impressed pretty much everyone he was around. As Fields ascended to become the top player in the nation, every program in the country came after him. He decided to back away from his Penn State pledge and consider other schools.

Florida State, Florida, and Auburn were considered to be the favorites for Fields. But Georgia was the in-state school and Kirby Smart had built a great relationship with Fields and his family over the last year. Dell McGee was made his lead recruiter and together, they sealed the deal. Fields committed to UGA on October 6th. From then on, he was a Dawg and he went about recruiting others to join him.
