How did he end up at UGA?

Salyer was one of 3 5-star players who committed to UGA on early signing day. Unlike his very good friend Andrew Thomas, Salyer did not commit early. He wanted to take his time and make his decision. Salyer is a really unique prospect. An offensive guard hasn’t been ranked this highly in a very long time. It’s therefore not surprising that he wanted to take his time and so what was right.

He has been one of the big priorities for Sam Pittman and Kirby Smart in forever. Back when Andrew Thomas committed to UGA in the summer of 2016, Georgia was already pushing hard for him. But they weren’t the only program. Every team in the country would want a player like Salyer and they all came in for him.

The biggest challenger to Georgia and the ‘other school’ was Clemson. They had remained in Salyer’s top 2 for most of his recruiting. This was pretty much always a 2 school battle. Although Salyer will not enroll early, he announced during the season that he would commit and sign on December 20th. He was ready to finish his recruitment and start to prepare for college.

The week before his final official to Athens, rumors on Clemson boards suggested that he had decided to put back his decision. It was suggested that Dabo Swinney had persuaded him not to go to Georgia and give them more time. But Salyer squashed those rumors and announced his signing anyway. He committed to UGA at a signing day event in The Battery near the new Atlanta Braves stadium.
