What can we expect in Athens?

Of all of the players that are coming in this class, Salyer might be the readiest to start on day 1. We saw with Andrew Thomas this season just how well-coached guys are from that program. Add in his natural physical tools and his mentality and I can see him beating out everyone and getting a spot on that line.

Whether it’s day 1 or later on in the season, Salyer looks to me to be a guy who is going to finish the 2018 season as a fixture on the offensive line. If Thomas moves to LT as expected, I would think that happens sooner rather than later. They know how to play together and have excelled at doing so in the past.

Salyer is one of those rare guard prospects who could go in the first round of the NFL draft. I’m not sure if he’ll do 4 years at UGA because I could see the pro’s calling after his junior year in college. The good news is that if that happens, it’s likely because he has become one of the best linemen in the college game. That probably means that UGA has been pretty dominant in that area.

He’s not going to be a guy who gets noticed an awful lot. Linemen are almost always ignored by TV coverage but expect to see plenty of pancake blocks from Salyer during his UGA career. He’ll never get the credit that guys like Fields or White get, but he should end up being a dominant player during his time in Athens.

Next: Now lets check in on the man the call Zeus

If you’re like me and you like watching great trench play, you’re going to love Salyer. He might even become your favorite player in this very talented class.
