What type of player is he?

Ford is a big tight end with a lot of potential for growth. He’s already 6-6 and nearly 250lbs. Ford moves really well when you consider that size and he’s very capable of becoming a nightmare for cornerbacks and linebackers in the future.

Ford is going to have to improve his blocking. That’s pretty much a must for any Kirby Smart team as Issac Nauta has found out several times during his time in Athens. Ford has the size to be a good blocker if he works on his technique.

Ford has been the primary weapon at his school and he’s one of those guys who will have to get used to sharing the ball. But he’s got all of the potentials you look for in a top tight end. He has the size and explosive athletic ability that would make him a good fit at the next level. It’s going to be interesting to see exactly how he develops in Athens.

Nauta is the obvious comparison but I think he could end up being a slightly different player. Nauta is stockier than Ford and he’s broader in the shoulders. Ford is longer and leaner and he reminds me a bit of Orson Charles. He was a beast for UGA back in the day and I think Ford can be a very similar player as he develops.

Ford bonded really well with Justin Fields at The Opening and it will be fascinating to see if that relationship continues to be strong on the playing field. As we’ve seen with Jake Fromm and Javon Wims, sometimes those relationships can make a player. It’ll be really exciting to see these guys play together again.
