High Expectations:

Before the 2017 season,  expectations were sky-high for UGA’s tight ends. Jeb Blazevich and Isaac Nauta, in particular, were 2 who were expected to have monster years under sophomore quarterback Jacob Eason. Well, you all know by now that things didn’t go as planned. Eason, who had an obvious chemistry and connection with Isaac Nauta In 2016, went down with an injury just minutes in the first game of the season. Freshman Jake Fromm took over and by the time Eason came back, Fromm had solidified himself as the starter.

This Fromm led offense never used the tight ends with the frequency we saw when it was led by Eason. They were used more for blocking. And for the most part, they did an excellent job. UGA had one of the best offensive lines and running games in the nation this season, and the blocking help from the tight ends was an obvious part of that.

They were always out there lurking though.  It almost seemed like one of those “secret weapon” deals. You know..you don’t use it unless you need it.  UGA offensive coordinator Jim Chaney is breaking out the secret weapon for the postseason.  On a first and goal against Auburn in the SEC championship game, down 7-0, in an obvious running situation, Jake Fromm faked a toss to Sony Michel and then threw a dart to an absolutely wide open Isaac Nauta In the back of the end zone. It wasn’t a long downfield play. But it was yet another way that this Georgia offense has shown that they can punch the ball in for a TD when they are in the red zone.
