Georgia football freshman safety Tray Bishop gave the Bulldog Nation something to be proud of on Christmas Eve.
As fans, we only hear about what individual players do off the field when they get in trouble. The good things they do usually go unreported. But on Christmas Eve, the twitter page of Georgia football safety Tray Bishop treated fans to a heartwarming, albeit short story.
Bishop said he checked his direct messages on Instagram and saw one from kid who said he looked up to Bishop and wanted to meet him for Christmas. So Bishop granted the young fans wish.
Later that night, he met the kids and presumably his parents. The freshman, and former 4-star prospect from Terrell County High School didn’t have to even answer the kid. But he went out of way to make his Christmas wish come true.
But for anyone who knows Bishop, that’s just the kind of person he is. Last summer, Chip Towers of Dawgnation exposed that side of Bishop to the Bulldog Nation. He’s a guy who oversaw his elementary school’s field day for a few years, even after he graduated a year ago (he graduated a semester early).
He was described as a kid who loved his school and his community. He was raised by a very loving and supportive family despite his parents not being together for all but a few months of his life. Both parents were always a present apart from the time his mother spent in the military.\
So really it is no surprise that Bishop would go out of his way to grant a young fans wish. That’s who Bishop is. From the stands, we only see men in pads and helmets hitting each other. But we barely get to learn about many of these kids’ personal lives.
That’s one thing social media has helped with; connecting to athletes who would otherwise just be football players to us. Social media does have its drawbacks. From Bishop’s story is one that makes it worth following our Bulldogs online.
