Georgia Football: UGA Players of the Rose Bowl Victory
3. Nick Chubb
On any other day, We’d be talking about Chubb as the man of the hour. His performance and stats were incredible. 14 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns. His first was a 50-yard run that should remind some of ‘Beast Mode’. He bounced off tacklers, threw them off him and then blazed away to a huge TD on the first UGA play of the 3rd quarter.
That play gave Georgia the feeling that they could do this. That reduced what was at one point, a 17 point deficit down to just 7. It was Chubb at his best, using his strength and balance to stay on his feet and throw off tacklers before burning the secondary thanks to his underappreciated speed.
Of course, Chubb wasn’t finished. He continued to be a huge presence and make big run after big run. Then, with almost no time left, as Georgia went on one last drive trying to tie the game, there was Chubb again. With Georgia on the 2-yard line and less than a minute left, UGA turned to him and he finished the drive off.
A direct snap play and once again, Chubb found the hole. Overtime was calling and we all know how that ended. In any other game, he’d be a serious candidate for player of the game. But there were two others who made plays that we fans will always remember.
