Georgia Football captain Sony Michel had his moment on the big stage on Monday night and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving player.

I never thought it would be quite like this. When writing about the Rose Bowl before the game, there were lots of players that I thought could make the difference. Sony Michel was absolutely one of those players, but I never thought he would have this big of an impact.

Michel has been the second name in what is now officially the most prolific RB tandem in the history of college football. When you think about Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, it’s always Chubb’s name that comes first.

There are a few reasons for that. To start with, his last name comes first in the alphabet. Secondly, when Todd Gurley was injured in 2014, it was Chubb who broke out as a freshman and set records, while Michel was making an impact on special teams. Lastly, Chubb is a Georgia boy, from a small town much like a lot of this state, he’s always been one of us. Michel comes from the bright lights of top level Florida high school football where he stared at American Heritage.

If Georgia was forced to have a ‘starting’ running back, that would be Chubb. He’s always been the one getting the attention for Heisman and national writers. Michel is a 5-star talent, a versatile draft pick who will likely be drafted before Chubb and could be a stud in the NFL. Yet at Georgia, he’s been a complimentary player, never the star.
