Georgia Football 2018 recruit: OLB Azeez Ojulari
What can we expect in Athens?
Ojulari comes to Athens with different expectations than Carter. Lorenzo was a 5-star player, his physical ability meant that a lot of rating agencies just assumed he would become a great pass rusher. That never quite happened as Carter only managed 14 sacks in his four years at Georgia.
But Carter’s impact has been much greater since Smart arrived. He has found a role for himself as the ‘do it all’ LB who almost never comes off the field. While some national writers might consider him a disappointment, try telling that to a UGA fan who has watched Carter develop into one of this teams best players and a true leader.
That development is the reason why it’s hard to give Ojulari the label of ‘the next Lorenzo Carter’. But there is no doubt that physically, he has very similar traits. Ojulari is unlikely to be a 4 year starter and could well end up red shirting 2018 after he tore his ACL to end his senior year. But even at this crowded position group, he looks like he will find a role.

Versatility is surprisingly rare in football these days. That’s especially true on defense where so often players are good against the run or the pass. Ojulari has the ability to be that rare player who comfortably does both. He might never put up gaudy stats, but he’ll be a guy who sees a lot of playing time in Athens and likely ends up playing on Sundays one day.
