Georgia Football: 5 Keys to Victory in the National Championship
Which linebacking corp is better:
And the comparisons just go on and on. If you thought that UGA’s linebacking corp couldn’t be beaten, you might be right. But probably the only team that could say the same is the one Georgia will play on Monday. Bama boasts a unit that can flat out ball.
Mack Wilson is the latest in a very long line of great inside linebackers for Bama. He’s following in the footsteps of CJ Mosely and Reuben Foster and the be honest, he’s just as good. He and the rest of that corp can be scary good. UGA is going to be a bit lucky because it looks like top pass rusher Anfrenee Jennings is going to miss the game with an injury.
Georgia likely boasts the best linebacker in the country right now in Roquan Smith. As good as Wilson is, right now, Smith is better. UGA is also missing a key player in this unit for this game however in Natrez Patrick. Georgia struggled last week to start the game and some of that I’m sure was the fact that they were missing a key starter in the middle of their defense.
From a pass-rushing perspective, Bama has had more success from their LB’s this year than UGA. Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy have been crucial players, but neither is a born pass rusher. Christian Miller Rashaan Evans, however, can both be really dangerous for the Tide.
Personally, because of the injuries, I think this is an area where UGA has an edge. This is the one shot Smith, Carter and Bellamy are going to have to win it all for Georgia. It’s the reason the later two came back. If they have their best game of the season, this could well be the difference.
