Georgia football: Top performers from the Bulldogs win over Oklahoma
Javon Wims
The FBS careers of junior college transfers are always a mixed bag. Sometimes they’re a major success. Other times they end up not being much of a contribute. With the year Javon Wims had in 2017, he was already a part of the former. But he cemented his legacy as an all-time great Georgia Bulldog with his performance against Oklahoma.
He continued to spoil Jake Fromm by not needing to be wide open to make catches. He led the team with six catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown came with a defender draped on his back. But the most amazing part came as he hit the ground. By just his finger tips, he kept the ball from touching the turf. He knew the importance of a touchdown.
And Wims was much more than just a pass catcher. He used his big 6’4 215-pound body to pull off some great blocks for the running backs just as he did against Auburn.
It’s just sad that after just two years, the National Championship Game will be Georgia’s last game with Wims. He enrolled in Athens as a junior and had a quiet year in 2016. But he became a Bulldog legend in 2017. Hopefully he has one more great performance left in him.
