Jake Fromm is good enough

Fromm didn’t put up Heisman numbers and the offense certainly doesn’t revolve around him. But does he not have a knack for proving doubters wrong. The talking heads said he couldn’t pass Georgia to victory against Oklahoma. The Dawgs couldn’t rely on him to make any plays. He went 20-of-29 with 210 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Rose Bowl.

Just like back in September. Fromm couldn’t play well in his first road game in Notre Dame. he went 16-of-29 with 141 yards and a touchdown. Never crumbled under the pressure. All those analysts and commentators mistook the small sample size for distrust. Georgia trusts Fromm because Fromm is good enough.

He won’t pass for 400 yards with five touchdowns against Alabama. But he doesn’t need to. If Fromm has an identical game to what he had against Oklahoma, Georgia will beat Alabama. That means going 20-of-29 with 220 yards with two scores and zero interceptions.

Georgia is going to struggle to run. newsflash, they have all year. What game besides Florida and Mississippi State this season did Georgia start by struggling on the ground? Every game included Fromm doing something to force defenses to respect him. Then Chubb and Michel took over.

Fromm versus Oklahoma

Beyond that, Fromm went three-of-four on Georgia’s final drive Monday night to tie the game. True freshman who everyone says is just a game manager; playing in the Rose Bowl down by one touchdown; for a chance to play for the National Championship. Goes almost perfect.

Along the way, he avoided a sack deep in the backfield and then decided to dump the ball to Michel for 17 yards. He almost threw the game tying touchdown, but defensive pass interference robbed him of that. Javon Wims definitely would have caught that ball if not for the interference.

The big moments do not bother him. Mistakes do not bother him. Hostile environments do not bother him. The offensive line has to protect him and receivers have to catch. But if Jake Fromm doesn’t turn the ball over and gives his receivers a chance to make catches, he’ll lead Georgia to victory.

Turnovers are where Kelly Bryant and so many quarterbacks this season failed against Alabama. The mistakes and the mishandling of those mistakes is why Clemson, Texas A&M and LSU all failed to defeat the Tide.

If there is any quarterback who can rise above that, is Fromm not that guy. Based on the evidence I’ve presented you, is Fromm not the perfect foil for Alabama’s defense? I’ll say it again, I’ll even guarantee it this time. If Jake Fromm doesn’t turn the ball over and gives his receivers a chance to make catches, he’ll lead Georgia to victory.
