If Georgia Football is going to win the National Championship on Monday, they are going to need to stop Jalen Hurts and the option play.

As we continue to look at the upcoming national championship game on Monday, one thing is very clear. Alabama has one of the best defenses in college football. Watching the Sugar bowl reminds us just how good Nick Saban is at building a suffocating defense. That’s why his former top lieutenant Kirby Smart will need to do the same on Monday.

This 2017 Georgia team is built upon their defense. Much like Alabama, that’s the strongest part of their football team. For UGA to win this game, they are going to need that unit to play lights out, particularly against Alabam’s main offensive weapon.

Jalen Hurts is not a traditional quarterback like Jake Fromm. His main talent is identifying when to hand the ball over to his big running backs and when to tuck it and run himself. His ability to correctly identify which option is the correct one is what makes him so effective in the system that he plays in.

If UGA is going to beat Bama, limiting Hurts is going to be key. While he doesn’t fling the ball all around, he finds a way to keep moving the chains. He has built his career on making good decisions and finding the gaps in an opposing defense.

Georgia has had remarkable success this year against mobile QB’s, several of whom are more explosive than Hurts. But none of those play in an offense as ruthlessly efficient as Bama or has Hurts’ track record of success. So how can UGA stop the option play on Monday?
