Roquan the Destroyer:

One of the things that to me gives UGA an edge in this match up is Roquan. Look Alabama a loaded defense, it’s going to be really hard for Georgia to score points. But the Dawgs will have the best defensive player on the field on Monday. That’ not to diminish any Alabama players. But none of them bring the consistency and the versatility that Roquan does. Nobody in America has played better than him this season.

If UGA are going to win this game, they are going to need a monster game from their best player. We saw in the second half of the Rose Bowl how Smith can effect a game. We also saw him shut down Notre Dame and Mississippi state’s running QB’s this year. Nobody is better suited or prepared to spy on and take down Jalen Hurts than Roquan Smith.

If this was any normal player on any normal UGA team, I’d be worried about relying so much on 1 player. But Roquan has proved time and again this year, that he is not like everyone else. He’s just so far ahead of everyone else on the field mentally and he’s as physically gifted as anyone who will play on Monday.

I fully expect Smith to spy on Hurts similarly to how he did with Nick Fitzgerald and Brandon Wimbush. Those two performances were ones where I remember him constantly harassing the QB’s and taking over the game. To stop Alabama’s option playbook, we’ll need to see one final performance like that from Smith. Call me a homer if you like, but I think he’s got one more of those in him.
