5. D’Andre Walker:

We’ll start with a pass rusher, but not the one the media keep talking to. D’Andre Walker has come a really long way this year and I don’t think many outside of Athens have really noticed. Back at the beginning of the year, he was a picture of inconsistency. While he tantalized with rushing the passer, he constantly blew assignments in run support. It seemed like putting him on the field was always a risk.

Fast forward a few months and what a difference! Walker has started to really chip away at playing time for Davin Bellamy and he’s done so by getting rid of those mental errors. While Lorenzo Carter remains UGA’s top OLB, Walker is really not far behind right now.

When it comes to rushing the passer, he might be the best. Walker harrassed Baker Mayfield and Jared Stidham in the past two games. He was instrumental in generating pressure that forced them out of their comfort zone. There is no doubt that if UGA is going to pressure Jalen Hurts, Walker will be a key factor.

Where he has improved is in the run game. Walker has plenty of talent and now that he is recognizing plays and doing his job, he is becoming a much more consistent player. We have seen him make several crucial stops on running backs and hopefully we see a few more tonight.

While a lot of people don’t know him, UGA needs Walker to be at his best tonight. He is a crucial part of their plan to stop Jalen Hurts and the Alabama offense.
