Georgia Football: National Championship Score Prediction
Before each game, Dawn of the Dawg will release a score prediction for the Georgia Football team’s upcoming game. Here’s how we did last week:
Prediction: Georgia 38, Oklahoma 28
Actual Result: Georgia 54, Oklahoma 48
It’s almost that time. The Georgia Football team is playing in the national championship game for the first time in decades and is seeking to win the program’s first national title since 1980, long before I was even born.
How did the Dawgs get here? Kirby Smart has elevated Georgia to a national powerhouse program after years of underachievement under Mark Richt. He’s done so in just 2 years through excellent recruiting, coaching, and support from the UGA Athletic Department.
This Georgia team is special. It is loaded with seniors on both sides of the ball, many of whom chose to forgo a shot at the NFL Draft least year and return to Athens to compete for a championship. It seems that those decisions by those players have certainly paid off.
Many thought that Georgia’s chances at a national title ended in the first quarter of the season opener when quarterback Jacob Eason went down with a knee injury. Instead, Jake Fromm stepped in as a true freshman and the rest, they say, is history.
Georgia Football stands on the cusp of immortality in the college football world. What stands in the Dawgs’ way? The Nick Saban-led dynasty that is Alabama. Kirby Smart served as an assistant under Saban for 9 years at Alabama and now he has a chance to take down his mentor by winning a national championship. If Georgia is able to win tomorrow, Kirby Smart will be the only former assistant of Saban’s to beat him in a head-to-head match-up.
Both teams in this game are coming off impressive wins in the College Football Playoff Semifinals last week. Alabama dominated Clemson for 4 quarters and the Dawgs won a double-overtime thriller against Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl.
These two teams match-up incredibly evenly. Both pride themselves on being physical at the line of scrimmage and running the football. Whichever team is able to do those two things better on Monday will most likely win the game.
What will be the difference in this game? Jake Fromm will simply outplay Jalen Hurts and do enough to send the Dawgs back to Athens with a national championship. Of course the Dawgs will run the ball effectively like they have done all year, but this game will remain close enough where Fromm will have to make a few clutch throws to give Georgia the win. And based on everything we have seen from Fromm this year, I’m certainly not betting against him.
Move over, Alabama. It’s Georgia’s time now and Kirby Smart is here to stay.
Prediction: Georgia 28, Alabama 24
Georgia takes on Alabama in the National Championship tomorrow at 8:00 P.M. (ET) on ESPN.
