The Bad

But it’s never good when officiating takes the spotlight

OK look, I do not want to rant about the refs. I take absolutely no pleasure in even writing about this, but it has to be said. Once again, we saw a game where the men in white and black had a direct impact on the result.

Would Georgia still have lost if the Refs had correctly allowed that blocked punt? Who knows, but it’s just so frustrating that we’re having to talk about these things. In this day and age, there has got to be a better way to do this officiating.

Is the answer more video replays? Well considering the officials already reviewed far too many decisions and slowed the game down, I’d say no. But when the entire world can see that a call is wrong or that a ref has missed something, there has to be a way to let them know and change the call.

It’s a thankless job being a referee, and at some point, the powers that be need to find a way to fix that. In a world of instant replay, when every drunk in a bar can see that the call is wrong 5 seconds after it’s been made, surely we can find a way to at least tell the ref. They don’t like being wrong you know.
