Georgia football: After loss to Alabama, where does Georgia go from here?
Georgia football lost a heart-breaker to Alabama Monday night in the National Championship Game. The Dawgs lost 26-23 in overtime.
The dream season is over. Georgia football entered 2017 with expectations to go maybe 11-1 in the regular season before losing in the SEC Championship Game and hopefully winning the Peach Bowl. But most sources had the Dawgs going 10-2 and never being in the National Title conversation.
Instead, Georgia ends the season 13-2 in the National Championship Game following a deflating loss to Alabama in overtime. But before we dwell on the loss, lets look ahead to 2018. This was just year-two with Kirby Smart and the program is heading north at a surprising pace. The question now is, what’s next?
Optumism
There is of course, many reasons to be optimistic about 2018 and beyond. Jake Fromm for starters. He played well beyond his age in the National Title Game. He made a lot of great throws and looked very calm. He’s looked that way all year though.

You can’t help but feel good about him in 2018. His poise, mobility in the pocket and relationships with receivers is way above average for a true freshman. He’ll only get better with another spring. His receiving corps will as well. Georgia loses Javon Wims, but Terry Godwin and Mecole Hardman return.
Georgia also has a set of freshmen receivers who were four-star prospects that didn’t get much playing time. I don’t think any played besides Mark Webb. At least one of those kids should have a breakout year in 2018. The receiving corps should actually be better next season.
Then there’s the new tight end Luke Ford who may make an impact next season, Regardless, Fromm should target the tight ends more with more experience.
