How did he end up at UGA?

Joseph is the definition of a ‘surprise commitment’. While he comes from Florida, it always seemed like he was going to leave the sunshine state and head elsewhere. That started with a commitment to the LSU Tigers less than 72 hours after receiving an offer back in June 2016.

Joseph kept that commitment for a little over a year. Even after Les Miles was fired, he stayed committed to the coaches that took over until August in 2017. That was after months of speculation however and a rather infamous quote. Joseph told reporters that he was ‘82% committed’ to the Tigers. That certainly caused a lot of people to think that he was looking around.

Georgia and FSU were in the mix for Joseph but the Crimson Tide increasingly became the team to beat. Alabama focused really heavily on him and it looked likely the Tide would land him. When he announced that he would be heading to Tuscaloosa on December 5th, there were a few surprised people, however. There was a rumour that Georgia was secretly the leader right until the end.

But then December 20th rolled around and Joseph pulled his biggest surprise yet. He didn’t even decommit from Bama, instead, he just signed for Georgia, shocking quite a few people. The Tide put out rumours that he had issues with his grades, suggesting that they had actually pulled his offer. A typical move from them but one that was pretty classless as they went into damage limitation mode.

Joseph wanted to enrol early but he has not. If he did have grade issues, I would guess they can be fixed over the next 6 months considering his previous plans. Whatever happened there, UGA got its man.
