What can we expect in Athens?

It might take Joseph some time to find his feet in Athens, but when he does, watch out. It’s worth remembering that UGA started to get bigger at cornerback in 2017 at least in terms of recruiting. Ameer Speed was brought in because of his size/speed combo and he’s a very long and talented player.

Georgia also converted another freshman in Mark Webb over to cornerback last year and apparently, the results were really impressive. Webb is another tall player and while he doesn’t have blazing fast speed, he’s a very physical player. He is expected to stay in the secondary and could see playing time in 2018.

Speed is the closest player on UGA’s roster to Joseph in terms of physical ability and he also came from a similar background in Florida. He played late in some games during blowouts, but other than that, he watched and learned a lot this past season. I would expect Joseph to take a similar route but eventually, he’ll find a way onto the field.

I’m really excited to see what Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker can do with these cornerbacks over the next few years. We saw real improvement from the likes of Deandre Baker this year despite his physical limitations so it’s clear they can get the best out of players.

Next: 2018 lineman Warren Ericson

The best of Joseph is pretty damn good. If he’s able to make the most of his talent, he could be a key component of a unit that needs to become better for Georgia to become a complete team. Hopefully, that’s exactly what happens over the next few years.
