Georgia Football 2018 recruit: Cornerback Chris Smith
How did he end up at UGA?
Chris Smith committed to Georgia a kind of a time of crisis for Georgia recruiting. He made the decision on May 1st, which coincided with his birthday at the time. This was a very much needed recruiting win for UGA at the time. This was less than 2 weeks after Adam Anderson had flipped to LSU and things were looking grim for the 2018 class.
Oh how hings have changed. Smith went from being the highest ranked recruit in a class, to a regular member of something special. But I doubt Smith is going to mind that, just as I’m sure he won’t mind if 5-star Tyson Campbell eventually ends up in Athens. Smith has always carried himself as someone who loves a challenge.
Smith played with 2017 UGA commit William Poole III. They are relatively similar in terms of size and skill actually. Both are slightly under 6ft but they are tough, aggressive corners. Together, they made Hapeville Charter a much better program.
Once he made his commitment, Smith never seemed to waver. While he wasn’t a class builder quite like Kearis Jackson or Justin Fields, Smith has certainly helped recruit other players to UGA. When he signed, this class was him, Jake Camarda and the soon to decommit linebacker Donovan Georges. How times have changed.
