Georgia Football 2018 recruit: DT Devonte Wyatt
What can we expect in Athens?
They just don’t build many people like Wyatt. It’s crazy to see someone that big with the level of speed and burst that he has. Having played at a low-level high school and a community college, he hasn’t yet had elite coaching available to him until now.
That’s already changed with new defensive line coach Tray Scott. I was very impressed with the way that UGA’s defensive line came along this season. Tyler Clark became a star, but he wasn’t the only one who made big strides. Julian Rochester looks ready to become the Nose Tackle of the future and there are others that got better as the year went on.
Wyatt has all of the raw tools defensive coaches look for. It’s just a question of bringing it out of him and I think Scott should be able to do that. Wyatt seems to have learned a great deal from his experiences as well and that should only help him continue to work hard and get better.
I expect Wyatt to be similar to Tyler Clark, to be honest. He’ll find a way onto the field in his first year in Athens and he’ll contribute. But in his second, that is when I expect him to step up and really start to reach his potential.
Next: Sad end to Malkom Parrish's UGA career
And what potential that is. Wyatt has all the talent to be much more than just a rotational player. He’s the kind of guy schools wants to lead their defensive front up the middle. Georgia fans should be very happy that he’ll be doing that in Athens.
