6. Davin Bellamy and Lorenzo Carter Ice the game – Notre Dame

Speaking of Lorenzo, I’m sure everyone remembers this play. The one that ended the Notre Dame game and really started Georgia’s special season. Before this game, none of us had real hopes of going to the national championship. A lot of people including myself thought we would lose this game. Carter and Bellamy ensured we did not.

With Georgia leading by just 1 point and under 2 minutes to go, the Fighting Irish had a chance to win the game. Yes, they had to drive down the field, but they had the offense to do it. That is, they did until Davin Bellamy came screaming around Notre Dame’s left tackle and strip-sacked Brandon Wimbush.

Lorenzo Carter then did what Lorenzo Carter did all year and found himself in the right place at the right time. He recovered the football and iced the game. Georgia went into South Bend and won a historic match that really started UGA’s season. You can see Kirby Smart celebrating, he knows how much this game meant.

When you think about how many Dawg fans were there for this game, this play validated all of that time and money that they spent. To go up there and win, with a freshman QB and against a good ND team gave us all hope that this year could be something special. To see Bellamy beat a tackle that many think will go in the 1st round fo the NFL draft really was a great moment. It won us that game and set us on a path we all got to enjoy. Yes Davin, you really do have ice in your veins.
