2. Lorenzo Carter’s Blocked Field Goal – Rose Bowl

Who would have thought a special teams play could have been so high? Well, when that special teams play is a blocked field goal that essentially wins your team the Rose Bowl and a place in the National Championship Game, then yes, I guess that it deserves to be high.

Lorenzo Carter has been on this list a few times for plays that he’s made alongside others. This one, however, this was all Carter and he practically hovered off the ground and was able to just get his fingertips to the ball to block the kick.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, no play sums up more how much Carter meant to this team than this one. He doesn’t put up crazy sack stats, but the guy does everything, including on special teams. That’s the kind of player that he was at Georgia and this will always be his defining moment at UGA.

It was a fitting play considering the amount of effort that Kirby Smart has put into becoming good on special teams. It’s an underappreciated unit to a lot of fans and even some coaches. But this is another example of how that unit can win or, in some cases, lose you games.

Thank you, Lorenzo. You were a DGD like the rest of the seniors and we’ll never forget you. This is a play that will go down in UGA folklore for a very long time.
