Georgia Football: Top 15 plays for the 2017 season
1. ‘The Catch’ by Terry Godwin – Notre Dame
As if there could be another choice for number 1 here. Yes, there were some other plays that were more significant or came at bigger times, but there simply was no play that was better than this one this season. In fact, I don’t think there has been a better play than this at UGA in a very long time.
Somehow, Getty images doesn’t have a picture of this catch. That’s why there isn’t one at the top of this page. That is a damn crime because this is a play that we’ll be talking about for years. When Terry Godwin made this catch, I think my brain melted just a little bit. The same thing keeps happening every time I rewatch it as well.
Let’s just start with the fact that the ball is actually behind him when he catches it. As in it’s behind his head and he can’t see it. Then let’s talk about the fact that he somehow manages to pin the ball to his shoulder while getting a leg in bounds and making sure the ball doesn’t move and he does all of this in about half a second.
HOW DID HE DO THAT? I have been asking myself this question for about 3 months and I still don’t have an answer. There were plenty of great plays for Georgia this season, but I’m sorry, I just can’t put anything ahead of a catch that basically breaks the space-time continuum whenever I rewatch it.
Next: Looking at 2018 DT Devonte Wyatt
Terry Godwin has become an incredible player for UGA and I fully expect him to have plenty more big plays in 2018. I don’t know if anyone, however, is going to do anything quite like this again. This was otherworldly.
