9: Sony Michel burns the Gators – Florida

Oh look, it’s Sony Michel again. That’s a surprise! This was my favourite play from Michel all season. We’ve only had half of the 1st quarter and Sony Michel essentially ends the game by putting Georgia 21 points up with a 74-yard run.

Yeah, you read that right, the game was essentially over after this run and we still had nearly 8 minutes to play in the 1st quarter. That’s how much the Dawgs dominated the Gators this year.

What made this play even more special was the commentating. Just before the play, Gary Danielson brought up Sony Michel’s stats vs the Gators in the previous 3 years. He talked about how he hadn’t been able to have any success against Florida in his career so far.

It was almost like Michel was listening to that. Because he took that ball 74 yards in one play and said ‘goodnight gators’. It was one of those plays that was glorious on the field but was made even better on TV because of the commentating. It’s really hard to beat this kind of moment.

Danielson wasn’t wrong either. Michel had struggled against Florida in his previous 3 seasons. This run was his opportunity to banish a lot of demons and go out against the Gators in the perfect way. That’s something the entire senior class did with this years 42-7 victory.
