Georgia Football: Battle for right tackle starting early
Isaiah Wilson, Redshirted Freshman
Wilson might well be the biggest player in the entire UGA squad right now. Considering just how big UGA’s line is right now, that’s saying a lot. He is every bit of 6-7 tall and he came into the school at over 350lbs.
Recent reports have said that he used this 2017 season to slim down a bit and that has really helped him. Apparently, he’d down to around 325lbs right now and it’s really helped him on the scout team.
Wilson struggled to adjust to the heat and level of play when he arrived in Athens. That’s no surprise, he’s from Brooklyn which is a very different high school environment. But the tools are insane and that’s the reason why he was the highest ranked player that Georgia signed in 2017. Higher than Richard Lecounte, higher than D’Andre Swift and yes, higher than Jake Fromm.
Reports from out of practice have suggested that Wilson has really come on this year. Being redshirted has actually helped him because it’s given him time to work on his conditioning first and then his technique. I give him a lot of credit because based on interviews, he embraced the redshirt and worked at getting better.
The postseason practice reports have all highlighted Wilson as someone who looks ready to play. If that’s the case, he should have the inside track to this job. Having to fight off some other players for it is not going to be a bad thing, however.
