Georgia Football starting to have ‘Rich Program Problems’.
Georgia Football received a bit of bad news to start the week when ESPN announced that assistant coach Shane Beamer is going to be heading to Oklahoma.
Georgia Football fans had a bit of a shock to start the week today. Tight Ends coach and Special Teams Coordinator Shane Beamer has decided to move on from the Bulldogs. He is going to be taking the position of Assistant Head Coach for Offense at Oklahoma.
The Sooners have a pretty complicated system for coaches. Unlike Georgia who has no assistant head coaches and just three traditional coordinators, Oklahoma does things very differently. Beamer will become the second Assistant Head Coach on staff and he should be the second in command now behind head coach Lincon Riley when it comes to offense.
Oklahoma also has two co-offensive coordinators as well as an assistant defensive coordinator alongside long-term coach Mike Stoops. It’s a pretty weird setup, to be honest. But it seems to have worked under Riley and this move is likely a promotion for Beamer.
Riley calls the plays for Oklahoma and I doubt that is ever going to change. But if Beamer has any desire to be a head coach like his father one day, this move does make sense. It gets him one step closer to being an offensive coordinator which will give him a better shot at a top job than heading up special teams.
While the move is good for Beamer, it’s a big hit for Georgia who now only have 8 coaches instead of 10. Beamer is also not the only coach to have left after this great 2017 season, so he’s a quick bit of info on who else has left the Dawgs this season.
