Offensive Player of the Year

Isaiah Wynn: Senior Offensive Tackle

This might surprise a few people. When you have a unit that is as loaded with talent as UGA is, it might be a surprise to see a lineman take the award. Plenty of UGA’s weapons went out and really impressed. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel both had great seasons. Jake Fromm looked great considering he was just a freshman.

But nobody meant more to this unit in terms of consistency than Isaiah Wynn. Let’s be honest, it’s not like Georgia had anybody else ready to step in and play left tackle this season. Going into the year, I didn’t give Wynn that much credit. I expected him to start for the year before eventually being pushed inside to guard.

A boy was I wrong. Wynn not only held onto the left tackle position all season, he became one of the top tackles in the conference. He was named first-team All-SEC when the season was over. Not only was he the best left tackle on this team, he was the best in the SEC.

That wasn’t a throwaway award either. Wynn absolutely deserved it considering how well he played. How many times did you see Nick Chubb or Sony Michel make a big run to the left side? Every time it happened, you saw Wynn throwing defenders over. Add in the fact that he kept a freshman quarterback pretty clean all season and he proved a player who really could do it all.

He’ll be a guy we get to watch on Sundays pretty soon. While he might play at guard in the NFL, Wynn proved this year that size isn’t everything and that he is one heck of an offensive lineman.
