Georgia Football fans have had a lot to cheer about on the recruiting trail this winter already, but Tyson Campbell is a player to watch for this February.

After cleaning up back in December, you’d be forgiven for thinking that recruiting season was over for the Georgia Football team. Kirby Smart signed 20 players. 6 of whom were 5-star players. No, you didn’t read that wrong, 6. That means that UGA currently has the number 1 recruiting class in the country.

But there are still a few more spots to go and UGA is fighting hard to get the best possible players to fill them. With national signing day now 10 days away, I thought I’d start diving into some of the names that Dawg fans should know.

Right now, it looks like the Dawgs have either 4 or 5 spots (depending who you believe) up for grabs in this class. They seem to be actively recruiting about 8 or 9 players for those positions. I’m sure the coaches have their preferences, but it will likely come down to which are the best players they can get to sign on February 7th.

Tyson Campbell is target #1

I’ll look at some of the other players who are on UGA’s list next week, but I wanted to start with a name that all Dawg fans should know. Tyson Campbell is a cornerback out of Florida. He’s one of that rare breed of 5-star CB’s that exist every year. There really aren’t many of them and UGA hasn’t yet reeled one in for a while. The last one they signed was Branden Smith back in 2009.

Campbell is the blueprint for what you want a modern corner to look like. He’s over 6-2 and lightning fast.  If he signed with Georgia, there is a serious possibility that he starts on day one. UGA just doesn’t have a guy like this on their roster right now.

He’s more than just a great cover guy though. Campbell played safety at some points and he’s not afraid of hitting people. That all adds up to him being a potential shutdown guy and exactly what UGA needs right now. Bringing Campbell in and giving him a year to learn under Deandre Baker would be great for Georgia.

Campbell could very well end up a Bulldog. A lot of the experts have picked him to end up in Athens and he has been a focus for Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker for a while. Nobody has got more attention from them than Campbell.

Georgia recruiting is in a whole new world right now. Going to Miami and stealing a CB like Campbell from out of Florida is a sign of that. Here’s hoping we see him put on a Red and Black cap on February 7th. If we do, he could end up being one of the very best players in this class.
