Michael Bennett

Was there a more reliable player from 2011-to-2014 than Michael Bennett? He was never a superstar, he wasn’t even drafted out of college. And that’s really too bad because I think, if given a chance, Bennett could have been a standout receiver in the NFL. He could get himself open and very rarely dropped a pass. He could also block on the outside.

He’s only been left off of an NFL roster for a year now so it’s way too soon to give up. But if no team decides to sign Bennett soon, he should spend a year or two in the XFL to show all those NFL scouts what they’re missing.

Georgia fans know what the NFL is missing. In four seasons, Bennett caught 134 passes for 1,607 yards and 17 touchdowns. Not stellar numbers, but he was consistent. Both Aaron Murray and Hutson Mason would probably both say that Bennett made their jobs way easier.

Bennett did get one shot in the NFL. The Cincinnati Bengals signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2015, but they released late in the 2016 season. He is yet to play a down of professional football.

Meanwhile, Bulldog teammates Chris Conley and Malcolm Mitchell are off to good starts to their NFL careers. Nothing against them, but they weren’t that much better than Bennett at Georgia. But if NFL teams aren’t willing to give him a shot, Vince McMahon has a league who should.
