Georgia Football fans had a lot to celebrate in 2017. Unsurprisingly, winning increases expectations, exposure and of course, costs.
I guess this was always going to happen. When a team has a season like Georgia Football did in 2017, the costs always rise for fans. That’s the price you have to pay to watch a successful tam unfortunately. UGA announced yesterday that they would be no different and going to game sin 2018 would cost slightly more than last year.
Seth Emerson of Dawgnation.com did a great job of breaking down the costs for fans next year. Simply put, season ticket prices have gone up. Having been $300 in 2017, they are now $475. Individual tickets have also changed in price. Last season, they were $50 for each game. In 2018, tickets will be priced in 2 tiers, $75 for games against Power 5 teams and $55 for other teams.
The individual breakdown is something I can get behind. I do think it’s only fair that games to see non Power 5 teams should cost less than other games. As much as I love UGA, I don’t think it makes much sense than Austin Peay costs the same as the Auburn game.
Of course, the price rise isn’t the end of the costs. To be eligible for season tickets, fans need to donate at least $500 a year to the William C. Hartman fund. On the plus side, that is at least tax deductible for Dawg fans.
With these price rises, UGA moved to middle of the pack in terms of cost per game in the SEC. In 2017, Georgia was the 12th most expensive ticket in the conference, next season it will be 5th. While fans always want their seats to be cheaper, we can’t complain too much about the product on the field right now. Lets hope UGA keep their word and use the money to reward their coaching staff. The more of them we keep in town, the better.
