Georgia Football fans have had a lot to cheer about on the recruiting trail this winter already, but Jordan Davis should not be forgotten.

After cleaning up back in December, you’d be forgiven for thinking that recruiting season was over for the Georgia Football team. Kirby Smart signed 20 players. 6 of whom were 5-star players. No, you didn’t read that wrong, 6. That means that UGA currently has the number 1 recruiting class in the country.

But there are still a few more spots to go and UGA is fighting hard to get the best possible players to fill them. With national signing day now 10 days away, I thought I’d start diving into some of the names that Dawg fans should know.

Right now, it looks like the Dawgs have either 4 or 5 spots (depending who you believe) up for grabs in this class. They seem to be actively recruiting about 8 or 9 players for those positions. So let’s take a quick look at another of those players who could end up in Athens.

Somehow, Jordan Davis might be the biggest player in this 2018 class.

What do they say in Basketball again? You can’t teach size. Well that applies in the trenches when it comes to football as well. Jordan Davis is a player who whatever his flaws, is a unique physical specimen.

Standing at 6-6 and comfortably over 300lbs, the guy is an absolute mountain. Despite his size, he’s also very athletic and explosive when he’s on the football field. That makes for a fascinating combination for a defensive lineman. There is little doubt that Davis could become a starting nose tackle for UGA one day. To do so however, he’s going to have to reach his rather vast potential.

Davis is the definition of a raw football player, probably even more so than Tramel Walthour because he spent a lot of time play offensive tackle at high school. But all of the attributes you want in a DT are there. One of my main takeaways from this season was that Tray Scott can coach up defensive linemen. Davis is the kind of player who could thrive under Scott.

He is going to need time and great coaching to reach his potential. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him redshirt in 2018. However there is no doubt that he has the sort of physical size that nobody else on our DL has right now.

Davis is a player that I expect UGA to sign on Wednesday. The fact that he’s so raw and is likely 2 years away is why he’s ranked where he is. But website rankings don’t matter to Kirby Smart and Coach Scott. They’re looking for something they can turn into a dominant lineman one day. That’s certainly Jordan Davis.

Next: Keep an eye on Tramel Walthour on wednesday as well

Davis is by no means a sure thing, at UGA or any other program. But I think he has the best chance to succeed in Athens and in this system. It might take some time, but if he works hard, there is a very good chance we’re talking about him playing on Sundays eventually. You can’t teach size after all.
