Georgia Football: Looking at the final potential 2018 commits
Leon O’Neal Jr is going to be a big time safety
I’m a Leon O’Neal fan to be honest. When you watch his film, he is one of those players who just jumps off the page. He reminds me a lot of JR Reed right now in the UGA secondary. O’Neal on the other hand probably has more talent and so could one day become a really high level player.
O’Neal was lights out at the Army All American Game and to be honest, I think he’s pretty underrated right now. He’s now rated as the 75th best player in the country, but he’s only the 8th best safety. To be honest, if there at 7 better players at his position right now, I’d be shocked.
O’Neal would probably be pretty high on my ‘want’ list. However, the reason that he doesn’t have his own article is because I don’t really think that UGA are really in the running for him. I know that they are trying, Mel Tucker has been working on O’Neal really hard. But ultimately, I just don’t see him leaving the state of Texas and with Jimbo Fisher now at Texas A&M, I think that’s where he goes.
I can see why he would choose UGA. Kirby Smart and Tucker are tow of the best secondary coaches in the business. However Georgia is loaded with good young safeties right now. O’Neal could possibly start in College Station in his freshman season and be closer to home. That’s why I think he stays. But he’s worth watching on Wednesday, you can never count out this coaching staff.
