Former Georgia Football star Todd Gurley represented the Dawgs in style this season, winning the NFL Offensive Player of the year award.

More proof that UGA is RBU. With Nick Chubb and Sony Michel heading to the NFL, they will get to join a former teammate in the pros. Todd Gurley’s third season in the NFL worked out rather well for both himself and the LA Rams. They won their division under their new head coach and went 11-5.

Gurley produced some incredible stats in 2017. He rushed for 1,305 yards and 13 touchdowns as well as 788 receiving yards and 6 touchdown catches. Those stats put Gurley fully in the NFL’s MVP conversation as the season went on.

While the ultimate award went to Tom Brady, Gurley did not go home empty-handed. He was awarded the Offensive Player of the Year award for the best season of his career so far. It’s always great to see former Dawgs get recognition, but there was something particularly nice about seeing this for Gurley.

Gurley’s career at UGA ended early after a knee injury ended his junior season. He was drafted in the first round anyway by the Rams and has become one of the top players in the league. With UGA increasingly trying to recruit at a high level, this sort of success is important for the Dawgs.

While he played at UGA before Kirby Smart arrived, having him be so successful in the pros is a major selling point. Coaches like Urban Meyer and Nick Saban love to boast to recruits about putting players in the NFL. Gurley gives the Dawgs a pretty big weapon to bite back with.

Fantasy football fans like me also probably think it’s well deserved. Gurley carried a lot of teams to titles this season. Just make sure you get a top 2 pick next year. After this award, I’m pretty sure the guy is going to be going pretty high next season…
