Flipping linebackers like crazy

Georgia wasn’t just signing uncommitted players today. No, it actually flipped tow instate guys from big time programs. I thought there was a chance that UGA would sign Otis Reese or Quay Walker. I never thought they had a chance to get both of them.

Walker is the most exciting of the two on film. He’s a ‘play anywhere’ kind of linebacker who is going to find a role somewhere. He could end up being a stud off the edge like Lorenzo Carter. Walker could also step inside and end up playing like Natrez Patrick. He has that kind of versatility. His decision to choose Georgia over Alabama or Tennessee was huge for this class. It was another massive win for Kirby.

Reese might end up not playing at linebacker. During his press conference, Smart said that he and Mel Tucker would start him off at safety which is where he played in high school. That’s a surprise, but it could make sense. Georgia is pretty loaded at linebacker now and if Reese can cover better, he could be a terrific safety. He’s quite possibly the biggest hitter in the entire nation, so yeah, watch out wide receivers.

Signing these two players is one thing. Flipping them from Alabama and Michigan was a huge result for Smart. He really has found a way to get kids to buy into UGA right now.
