How did he end up at UGA?

Campbell’s road to Georgia was quite a long one. As one of the most highly rated prospects in the nation, Campbell has a lot of schools chasing after him.

For a very long time, Miami looked to be the favourite. They were the hometown school for the American heritage star. Mark Richt has really improved the way that Miami has been recruiting since he arrived. Al Golden’s recruiting efforts were pretty pathetic. His 2017 class ranked only 27th in the entire country. That’s crazy for a school with that history and proximity to talent.

Things have been very different since Richt arrived. Miami finished 12th in 2017 and 8th this year. Unfortunately, Richt’s biggest issue at UGA was that he struggled to finish strong. That seems to continue to be an issue at Miami. He lost out on several big-time local prospects on signing day and Campbell was one of them.

Although Miami had the final visit, they were never really seen as a threat for Campbell in the end. Instead, it was an all-SEC battle between UGA and Alabama. The Tide was made this a real battle, but in the end, the Dawgs won the singing. Campbell picked the UGA hat on ESPN on national signing day and sent in his paperwork.

A lot of that was probably because of James Coley. While he might be an offensive coach, Coley’s connections in Florida are extensive. He was pretty much attached to Mel Tucker’s hip towards the end when it came to Campbell.
